How Cataracts Affect Your Eyes

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens, a clear structure behind the iris. The lens helps to focus light onto the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. As you age, the proteins in the lens break down and form clumps. These clumps can cloud the lens and make reading, driving, and performing other everyday activities difficult.
